Not-So-Democratic?

Democracy has been the over-used ‘keyword’ for solving all issues related to Pakistan ever since the media got liberated. We’ve seen well known people talk about it on talk shows across media channels and we’ve also seen the political party representatives boast about the need for a democratic government in Pakistan. But do you think this really is the case, and can you really anticipate where are we headed as a country with this democratic label? To be honest, I am not a political person, and I don’t support any group or political party whatsoever. And I would also want to clarify my stance that I do not wish to get any one offended with whatever I write.

I do agree that a pure democratic government can help and increase a country’s chances to jump on a track of progress and development, but what do we do if the ‘democratic label’ itself is being used in a deceitful manner. Why are all the so called ‘democratic’ political parties of this country are known by the name of their leaders? Isn’t that dictatorship within the political party itself? Shouldn’t every party have an internal system of elections to nominate the party leader for specific tenures to ensure that the respective party is democratic?

I don’t think that any political party in Pakistan has a proper internal system of elections to rotate the system of their leaders. The complete political scenario has turned into ‘dynastic politics’ in the name of ‘democracy’ and the masses who vote for them are not even sure of what democracy should actually stand for. When a political leader in this country starts increasing his/her popularity points through media, the next step involves the relatives stepping into the scenario by taking on lead roles within the government or the political party. And then, everyone talks about ‘merit’… yeah right!

Wow… What a democratic system is in the making for this country… eh? Making everyone a fool out of the situation? So is it really about democracy, or the hunger for popularity, power and money that drives dynastic politics? A party being run through dynastic politics can never implement democracy, as they don’t understand the need for internal elections to maintain a democratic stance. They rather believe in submitting their will to the ‘kings’ of the party. If this was the democracy we have been talking about, I think we were far better off under dictatorship. Because eventually these chosen ones, ensure that they make the civilians pay a price. This is just a sad state for all of us as a nation, as we are literally hanging in the middle of nowhere.

It is about being the ‘chosen-one’ for these politicians within their parties, where they are being treated as the ‘kings’ with huge mansions enjoying the luxuries of life. We live in a country where the political party leaders are larger than the name of the party itself. And when these leaders pass away, their role is passed on to their heirs as a legacy. Isn’t their a difference between feudalism and democracy? Maybe they have overlapping definitions in Pakistan. Its more of a personal power and popularity hunger rather than democratic efforts by the politicians, and we are stuck in the middle of no-where as a nation because we are always made to go for things that are a beautiful representation of something deceitful. As the saying goes, ‘everything that glitters is not gold.’

Happy Pakistan’s Day

Happy Pakistan’s Day Everyone! Its 23rd March today and as every other year, we celebrate it by not going to work. I feel this is a major contradiction as our leader Mr. Mohammad Ali Jinnah had the motto ‘Work Work and only Work!’ …

I know … even I enjoy days off after hectic weeks. But since I’m already going to work, why shouldn’t I go with more positivity? However this is just a random post… Last week was a very hectic one and I hope I get some time to rest.

I am still in bed and I need to get up and change so I could head out to work. There are some more stories that I’d be writing about. But till then.. Adious.. :p

I am extremely thankful to Faraz Noorani, the Channel Marketing Manager from HP and Khumar from Xenith PR for contacting me regarding this. The funny part was that I was talking to them in a pre-scheduled meeting and till the last moment I never knew I won it. And when I found this out, I was extremely excited and overwhelmed! Its been 2 days and I still cant get over the excitement level…  =P

I am still exploring this beautiful machine by HP with amazing art by the artist Tord Boontje; will post how it is in a few days time. Till then .. Adious!

I’m As Mad As Hell! [Video]

One of my student’s shared this video on Facebook, and this is from an old English movie called Network (1976). It really inspired me, so I thought I’d paste it on my blog for all the people to realize what the traditional media is doing to us. We need such a revolution for our country and we need to get up and bring that change ourselves rather than sitting on our seats and expecting the corrupt politicians and the so called higher authorities to do something about it! Long Live Pakistan!

Check out the video below and share it if you get what I am talking about!

Apni ISP Copyrights Issue

ApniISP.com

ApniISP.com

Being a regular internet user from the sub-continent its highly likely that you have heard about a website known as “ApniISP.com”… And if you know about this website, you would also know what it is famous for. Yes,  it got famous for offering people with the option to download pirated latest Indian songs. You are most likely to find all the new songs there, and with that aspect, it is a great offering for the internet public.

As a business idea, it is great as it is offering people what they need. I respect the person who launched it and I do respect people who are coming up with such wonderful ideas to cater to a certain need in the market and make money. The website drives tremendous amounts of traffic and is ranked 8,896 by Alexa out of the millions of website. It is ranked 100th most visited website from Pakistan.

A few days ago, someone I know, pointed out that ApniISP.com used to make money out of Google Adsense. It still is making money by Adsense as it currently has a banner or two on its website by Google. Now my question is, isn’t offering pirated material against the Google terms of service? Google bans such accounts if they find that someone is violating its TOS. Its funny that its been ages but no one pointed this out.

But the good part for ApniISP.com is that they have diversified themselves in terms of their revenue streams by selling ads to local clients. I don’t know if Google will ever find this out, but until they don’t, ApniISP.com is going to continue making some good money out of this.

Adious!
