Oxfam – Youtube Cannes Contest – My Video Entry

I have been waiting for this contest to start off so that I could participate. It was a great opportunity for a lot of creative young minds to explore and try out their skills in this Youtube 48-hour ad contest. Since I also tried and made up a video for it with my cell phone camera, it really took the brains to think of a different concept. One of my first actual videos that I made for the internet, which I cannot really rate myself. But atleast I did an effort and I am happy about it :) .

Here’s the video, please watch and rate it on Youtube, I need your support to increase the chances of it being competitive guys.

Well I dont know if the concept turned out too obvious, but I wanted to say that the smoke that we create through human activities and pleasures everyday, is resulting in passive smoking for the earth. And of course we all know that passive smoking kills. And yeah.. alot people have been asking me what am I doing with the banana in the end… well.. it is used to block the car exhaust of other people so that they don’s use their cars as well… in other words you should help others to not create passive smoke for the earth. Yeah.. too technical? lolz..

Please do rate a high 5-star on Youtube guys.. Please do it .. I need your support :)

Flower Adverts (Review) – 123fleurs.com

We all must agree that we usually link flowers to happy occassions. And as marketers if we ever think about creating an advertising campaign for happy occassion based flowers or a flowershop, we would most certainly be skewed towards relating the campaign to happy occassions like birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, valentines day, etc.

Keeping this notion in mind I came across a few ads that are attached below, that totally changed my perspective of thinking in-side the box. These ads belong to an online French flower store named 123fleurs.com and are promoting flowers as safer gifts. Since flowers do compete indirectly against a lot of other gift items based on a specific share of pocket, 123fleurs.com has used this  idea in an extremely amazing manner by depicting tragedy and shock with a tagline “Flowers Would Have Been A Better Idea!” This tagline sums the whole ad up.

The first ad is about an old lady, who died because of a heart attack she got by getting a sudden shock when she opened her gift. The gift in this case is the famous “Jack-In-The-Box,” which is very well known to give shock surprises for fun. As I said earlier that the tagline ”Flowers Would Have Been A Better Idea!” sums up the whole ad and sticks to your mind to be careful in selecting a gift for an old or a sensitive person the next time. And you might as well end up getting flowers :-D .

Similarly the second ad shows a pilot making a heart for his beloved through an air show, which is indeed about communicating a message on an anniversary, birthday or maybe valentines day, but its very depressing to see … that the planes crash! And then after getting quite sad at the image, we see a message at the bottom mentioning  that “Flowers Would Have Been A Better Idea!”

Very interesting concept overall. Would love to see more of them. If I find some, I’ll post back. In the mean time, if you wish to access 123fleurs.com, you can access it here.

Career Junction – Grocery List Advert (Ad Review)

Very nice ad by CareerJunction.com. Check out the amazing pen sketch and great visuals over all.

At the first glimpse the visuals are very impressing and you cannot really understand what the ad is about. You go through the amazing artwork  and you can read bread, sugar, tea, milk, tuna and juice, which is the typical grocery list written beautifully on the  notepad. But when you look at the tag line/slogan at the lower end, it says “Put Your Skills To Better Use” with a Career Junction logo. This is the time when you relate yourself to your own job and think if that’s the case with your own self. In majority of the cases you are unhappy with your job and would want to go on the Career Junction website and take your chance

Extremely catchy advert and I would rate it 8 out of 10 on creativity, message communication and service positioning.

YouTube Cannes Lions 48 hour Ad Contest

I heard about the Cannes Lions 48 hour Ad contest last month when someone mailed me a link to the Youtube username canneslions. There was nothing mentioned there, accept that I would need to check back by the end of April for the updates of the competition. I subscribed to the updates for this user, and received an email last night regarding the competition linking back to the Youtube page.

The competition starts on 15th May 2009 and will be open for 48 hours until 17th May 2009. A brief will be released at Midnight, GMT, 15th of May for an ad for a charity and the interested participants will have 48 hours to create, upload and submit the ad to the canneslions channel. After that, the participants will have about 2 weeks (from 17th May to 1st June) to promote the video through viral marketing campaigns before it is decided who will win a trip to Cannes to take part in the Young Lions contest at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

Two winners will be be judged on the basis of:

  • Creativity
  • Videos Viewed
  • Ratings & Footprint

The winners will win an all expenses paid trip to Cannes to represent Youtube in prestigious Young Lions contest.

A very interesting opportunity for young creative people who need a chance to prove their creativity. This competition has been opened first time to the world via Youtube, and it is a great opportunity to tap on to. Gear up guys and get ready to participate. :-)
